When planning a quinceanera it is much easier to start planning way ahead. Here's some tips on what you can start doing about one year before the quinceanera celebration. Hopefully, they will help the planning process run a little smoother.
Even though many spur of the moment quinceaneras turn out just fine, planning ahead will give you time to figure out all the details. First of all, start determining your budget. Make a plan for how much you can spend on your dress, decorations, reception site, photographer, and catering. Sometimes, padrinos will take care of all this which is fabulous. But other times, budgeting is key for a successful quince party.
Also, think of a date for your quinceanera. This will greatly help in making reservations for the reception hall and reserving a mass. The mass and the reception site are probably the first things you should reserve because they are sometimes booked over an year in advance. It will also allow your friends and family to start making plans to attend your special event. Most people will have to take off work of fly in from out of town.
We strongly advice you to talk to your priest as soon as possible if you are considering a religious ceremony. Make sure all your sacraments have been completed for your quinceanera mass. Sometimes, if all the needed sacraments have not been completed, you will need to attend special classes for at least one year to complete the requirements.
Also, start thinking about what kind of food you would like at your event. Consider asking your close relatives to help you cook the food for the event. Many hispanic families would rather enjoy their own home cooked food at the quinceanera rather than paying for expensive food cooked to someone else's liking.
Then come the fun details of the quinceanera party. Will you need a DJ, mariachi, or band? Some quinceaneras choose to have all three throughout their event to please the musical tastes of everyone at the party from grandparents to best friends. Also, think about the main colors you would like to use for your decorations and determine what theme you want for your quinceanera. Even though themes are not always used, it sometimes makes it easier to choose decorations and accessories.
Finally, start putting together a preliminary guest list. Think of all the special people you would like to share your special day with. Start asking people you know to please consider being padrinos or sponsors for your quinceanera. Explain to them how much their help is appreciated and how much it means to you. Last but not least, also start thinking of your potential escort or chambelan and your court of honor.
